The Swift Safety Cutter Overview

The Swift Safety Cutter

The “U.S. SWIFT” Safety Cutter is the newest concept in cutter technology, giving outstanding cutting performance with unique safety features to eliminate the risk of product damage and injuries to personnel.  It is a true safety cutter, sharper than a razor knife and lasting up to 4 times longer.

Who uses Swift Safety Cutters

Fortune 500 Companies, Government Service Agencies, Wholesale Packaging Outlets, Retail Services and General Warehousing.

The differences between Swift Safety Cutters and other knives

In simple terms, U.S. SWIFT Safety Cutters have the World’s first enclosed moving blade, with a unique slicing action giving outstanding cutting performance and impressive safety features that will not allow operatives to cut themselves. The benefits are clear: The providing of safer working conditions, instant reductions of accidents and injuries, stock and product damage and less workers compensation claims, overall stock efficiency and cost effective tooling. By installing U.S. SWIFT Safety Cutters most companies save many thousands of dollars per annum outweighing the initial cost of purchasing them.

Uses within Industry

It cuts any banding except steel and is fantastic on stretch film (gathers as it cuts).

It slices boxes with ease without damaging the contents.

It can be used to downsize boxes for re-packing (cut, score and bend).

It has a built in box tape cutter to eliminate product damage.

Other uses for the U.S. Swift Safety Cutter

It can be used for emergency cutting of car seat belts, harnesses.

In the home it quickly opens boxed goods, freezer and food packaging etc.

Gardening, recreational, boating, fishing, DIY, tradesmen at work, it can be

used on a wide range of applications.

Even children can use it safely.

Injury to Workers

The knife has become an irreplaceable tool throughout the packaging and food industry.  Almost all other industries use open bladed razor type knives within areas of their company.  The high risk of injuries to personnel in this particular area of work and the countless thousands of pounds claimed from employers and insurance companies each year for knife related accidents, encouraged us to develop the U.S. SWIFT Safety Cutter which achieves excellent results within all areas of the workforce.

Many people think that accidents in the workplace just happen, that they are due to fate or bad luck and are unavoidable. Research shows, however, that injuries in the workplace result from hazardous conditions, carelessness and unsafe behaviors all of which can be eliminated.

Cuts and lacerations from sharp objects, mainly open bladed knives, year in and year out are the third leading cause of injury in the workplace behind sprains/strains and bruises/contusions. In 1999, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were over 153,000 known incidents of cuts and lacerations in private industry, which accounted for about 11% of all injuries.

What do knife-cutting incidents cost employers? Uninsured costs by employers represents the money value of time lost by injured workers. Those costs are a result of time spent by other employees investigating and reporting injuries, giving first aid, production slowdowns, training of replacement workers and the extra cost of overtime for uninjured workers.

Often knife injuries are disabling. A disabling injury is one which renders the injured person unable to effectively perform his or her regular duties for a full day beyond the day of injury.

Product Damage

Damaged merchandise is responsible for billions of dollars in lost revenue annually. Because the “US SWIFT” Safety Cutter has an enclosed blade and separate box tape cutter, packed merchandise within the box remains cut free, reducing annual costs while increasing profit margins. The cost associated with introducing the safety cutters into a facility is minimal compared to annual savings.

Text Box: BLADE CHANGING INSTRUCTIONS
As with all blades, due to extensive use, they eventually become dull. The cutting edge is on one side of the blade, making the changing procedure as safe as possible. When the blade becomes blunt, it can be taken out, reversed and reinserted. A new sharp cutting edge is now available, effectively doubling the life span of each blade. The changing of blades on the Swift Safety Knife is a simple procedure. The following are the necessary steps involved in reversing or replacing a blade.

Hold the top of the knife in one hand and with the other hand, pull back the handle and push the pin down slightly to relocate it behind the blade. Let the handle slide forward to its original position and the  blade will slide out of its channel at the top of the knife. To avoid the blade from popping out due to spring tension, keep index finger over blade opening. The end of the blade should then protrude enough to remove it fully. Hold the blunt side or the ends of the blade to reverse or replace it for new cutting edge. If the end of the blade only protrudes slightly, a few light taps against a hard object should be enough to free up the blade.

Insert the blade fully into the blade opening and secure the pin by pushing the pin inward to relocate it into its normal position. If the blade is not inserted fully, the pin will not line up properly and therefore will not lock into place. The pin must be fully secured in order for the knife to work effectively.
